Antibiotic resistance is becoming a growing threat across the United States. Antibiotic resistant bacteria is popping all over and making it harder to treat different illnesses.

The question everyone is starting to ask is "what is antibiotic resistance?" The easiest way to explain it without going into scientific or medical detail is that it's the ability of a micro-organism to withstand the effects of an antibiotic. An antibiotic resistant bacteria is an organism that has mutated over time through natural selection to survive the effects of antibiotics, and basically to stay alive. The medical community is studying different antibiotic resistance genes to see what can be done about the problem and to perfect how to insert an antibiotic resistance marker in certain genes to study them.

Antibiotic resistant bacteria & natural selection are the common denominators in the research across the country, and they are working on the global perspective of antibiotic resistance. This is not a huge threat to most people right now and should not cause a panic. Generally it won't ever become a problem unless you take a lot of antibiotics frequently. That's the only way for antibiotic resistant bacteria to develop. Just like anything else that develops a tolerance, bacteria too need some time to change and adapt.
