First Aid Procedures

Basic first aid is something that it is important that we all learn, as we don't know when we will be called upon for help. We don't need to be doctors or nurses to be of service. We do, however, need to be training or have an understanding of basic first aid procedures and at the very least basic first aid for injuries. Whether you take a course in first aid at your local school or are offered it at your workplace, there is specific first aid information you will need to know to be certified in first aid. Being certified means that you have satisfactorily completed the course and learned the basic information on first aid.

The basic first aid kit needs to have, but not be limited to, the following items:

• Bactine or a similar antiseptic
• Gauze pads
• Adhesive tape
• Ace bandages
• Instant cold pack
• Latex gloves
• Band-aids
• Tweezers
• Sting and bite treatment (This is one of the first things they will insist on in wilderness first aid basics.)

One of the basic first aid instructions you will learn will be what is an emergency and what is not an emergency. A first aid study guide is very helpful in learning the different medical procedures for first aid. You will also have a first aid guide, which will give you quick access to common first aid emergencies, and telephone numbers you need to know quickly. You can get free first aid guides online or where you take your first aid course. They are usually given as part of the training.

Part of your first aid training will consist of learning from the basic first aid manuals you will receive. The other part will be actual hands on training. There are certain conditions that you can't train for until they actually happen. For these, they try to teach you basic first aid guidelines as to what you can and cannot do.

There is basic first aid to teach children as well as adults. Wonderful organizations like Boy Scouts do wonders towards helping children learn first aid. Organizations such as this help to understand basic first aid and the importance of everyone learning it.
