Arm Slings
Arm slings come in many different styles and fashions. If you need a sling for a broken arm there are several kinds of arm slings for you to choose from.
When someone breaks a bone in their arm like the humerus or radius, you will most likely end up with a cast on your arm. The cast is there to keep the bone from moving while the break heals and mends back together. If you dislocate you arm out of the joint you need something to keep it held firmly while it is healing after you have it set back in place. When you injure your arm in either of these two fashions, generally the hospital or doctor will set you up with an arm sling to keep your arm steady and immobile while it is in the healing process to help eliminate the chance of re-damaging it. There generally aren't arm slings for humerus or radius support individually. Most of the time, the sling is for any bone in your arm.
Arm slings are fairly common and come in a variety of colors and arm sling styles. You can find fashionable arm slings for those that are concerned with keeping in style and you can find fun arm slings which are generally found on the kids. You can find cartoon patterns, or smiley faces or even funny prints on the arm slings.
Many people decide they want to make an arm sling of their own so they just go on the internet where you can find a pattern for arm slings. Arm sling patterns generally come in a pattern for a universal arm sling that is easy to make and fits just about anyone. Obviously there are different sizes of arm sling for a broken arm depending on your age. If you're a 5 year old you're not going to want to wear an arm sling designed for someone that's and adult. The patterns will tell you about how big the arm sling will be.
There are of course mobile and immobile arm slings. By that I mean there are different arm slings that are meant to be worn while walking and moving around and there are slings that are meant for you to wear while stationary. A folding arm sling is one of the types that is meant for you to wear while staying in one spot. You will also find there are elevated arm sling frames to help reduce the swelling. If you get a folding arm sling and you don't know how to fold it you can ask your doctor or look it up on the internet and learn how to fold and arm sling. They can be complicated sometimes since they have a metal frame that goes with it. If you need an arm sling support for medical reasons your local doctor or hospital should be able to help you out with just the right type of arm sling for you.
